About Me
I'm Marcus. I run this site. I don't have a team of writers, I don't have a content calendar managed by some SEO agency, and nobody's paying me to rank casino brands (though plenty have offered). This is just me writing about an industry I know pretty well.
The Longer Version
I grew up in Manchester. Did my degree in Statistics at the University of Leeds, which sounds fancy until you realise half the course was people who wanted to work in finance and the other half were people like me who liked probability puzzles and happened to enjoy a punt.
Got my first proper industry job in 2013 — junior odds analyst at a sportsbook in London. Won't name them because I signed an NDA that I'm still not entirely sure has expired. The pay was mediocre but the education was incredible. You learn more about how betting actually works in three months on a trading floor than you do in three years of reading about it online.
By 2015 I'd moved into the affiliate side. Built a couple of comparison sites, learned about conversion funnels and player lifetime value. Made decent money for a while. Lost some of it when Google decided affiliate sites were spam. The usual story.
In 2016 I moved to Malta. If you've worked in iGaming you know about Malta — it's basically the industry's unofficial capital. Sliema and St Julian's are wall-to-wall with gambling companies. I spent five years there consulting for MGA-licensed operators, mostly on player acquisition strategy and odds modelling. Saw how the sausage gets made from every possible angle.
The Malta years were genuinely formative. I sat in rooms where people discussed player segmentation in ways that would make most punters uncomfortable. I also met some brilliant, ethical people who genuinely cared about responsible gambling. The industry isn't one thing — it's a messy mix of sharp operators, dodgy outfits, and everything in between.
Left Malta in 2021. Partly because of COVID making island life feel claustrophobic, partly because I wanted to do something more independent. Moved to Dublin, started this blog properly, and began writing the Smart Bettor's Playbook guide series.
What This Site Is
Honest reviews and analysis. That's it. I test casinos with my own money. I write about betting strategy based on actual statistical reasoning, not "top 10 tips" recycled from other blogs. When I review a platform, I use it for weeks or months before writing anything.
I'm not pretending to be unbiased — nobody is. But I am transparent about my perspective. I've worked on the operator side, so I know how margins work, how bonuses are structured to benefit the house, and why certain platforms feel "off" in ways casual players might not notice.
What This Site Isn't
It's not a casino affiliate site dressed up as editorial content. I don't do "TOP 10 BEST CASINOS 2026!!" lists where every entry happens to be an affiliate partner. There are thousands of those already and they're all basically useless.
I'm also not a tipster. I don't sell picks. Anyone selling picks is almost certainly making more from selling picks than from actually betting, which should tell you everything.

If you've got questions, want to suggest a topic, or want to tell me I'm wrong about something — contact page is here. I read everything, though I'm slow at replying. Occupational hazard of being a one-person operation.
Cheers,
Marcus
